The Story
These sweet little scallop shell charms were designed in collaboration with my good friend Sal, who wanted to express her love and support in raising funds for The Brain Tumour charity after her sister in law, Vicki, was recently diagnosed with Grade 4 diffuse midline glioma - which is a rare and aggressive form of terminal brain cancer.
We've created this sunset shell to symbolise Vicki's love for the beach. Her 'happy place', where she finds peace, solitude and special moments of laughter and love with her beautiful kids, family and friends.
My friend Sal said: 'I wanted to make something to show how much Vicki means to us all. Her daily strength & courage truly amazes me. Vicki is such an inspiration and I hope this will help raise funds for a cause that's become so very important to us
Some Facts About The Cause
- Over 700m is spent on cancer research in the UK every year yet less than 3% is spent on brain tumours.
- Over 5,300 people lose their lives to brain tumours each year.
- Over 12,000 people are diagnosed each year with a primary brain tumour, including 500 children and young people- that's 33 people every day.
- Just 12% of adults survive for five years after diagnosis. Research offers the only real hope of dramatic improvements in the management and treatment of brain tumours.
